April 2016

06/05/2016
Although April was better weather-wise than March I still didn't get out and do any sketching, however, I did manage to get out and take a few photographs. The Sedbergh Art Society’s Wednesday Group is still my main inspiration/driving force behind doing any work but I’ve yet to start any painting for the Kendal Art Society’s summer exhibition. Most of my paintings are now done in sketch books and watercolour paper books. I now have 10 such books in sizes between A5 to A3 accounting for 213 sketches and paintings, most of which are sketches/studies but some are good enough to mount and frame. The problem I have is painting to sell or painting what I feel is a challenge? There is always some pressure to exhibit three or more paintings in both the societies I belong to, because this is one of the main incomes for the societies, 20% from each sale!
Over the next couple of months I must try and do more figurative drawing something I’ve been neglecting to do over the last year or so, three of my sketch books are dedicated to just graphite and ink drawings and they are crying out to be filled. Maybe I should aim to produce one good enough to exhibit, there are very few local artists exhibiting this type of work.
