The Sedbergh Art Society's Wednesday Group decided to take on a project for the Sedbergh Peoples Hall, a rather large painting to cover a 2.4M x 1.2M board in the Main Hall. Bearing in mind that this is a joint project by members with mixed abilities, we decided that the subject would be based on a local Folly known as the “Pepperpot”. I have sketched out three preliminary sketches which in the weeks to come will be painted on the large panel. This will be a challenge for the group. The group members have not painted anything of this size before and have had little practice with using acrylic paint. The “Pepperpot Folly” located on the Sedbergh School estate. The first sketch, done in sepia, shows its use in the early 1900’s. The second sketch is when it became derelict from the mid 1900’s. The final sketch will be when it was renovated in 2014. Under each painting will be a brief description of its use during that time period. We are still looking for someone with good handwriting skills to write this in an appropriate font/style. Having never used acrylics before I decided to have a go at one of the sketches on the only canvas I had which, was about 2/3rds of the original size. Because of our mixed abilities the final paintings will have to be in a simple illustrative style. We only have three hours on every Wednesday afternoon, so this project may take some time to complete.
